Hi, I'm Evelyn
I've been a member of the West Side Story Staff since my sophomore year and am now the editor-in-chief of wsspaper.com. I also joined yearbook staff my senior year and currently serve as the managing editor.

I love engaging with all forms of journalism. If I had to pick favorites, I could spend all day taking photos and love writing a good old fashioned news brief. In this portfolio you can find my favorite work that I've done in the past three years, but if you want to see all my work for WSS, view my staff profile here.

My work
One of my favorite things about web journalism is the freedom it provides you to tell stories with a variety of medias. Throughout my three years on web staff, I've gotten the chance to dabble in a variety of forms of journalism, from traditional web articles to videos. As an editor, and eventually EIC, I've also had to learn the balance between leading a successful publication and creating an environment where everyone has fun — no matter the stress.
During my time at the WSS, I've written over 60 stories, from news briefs, to features, to opinion columns.
I've been an editorial board member all three years of my time on staff, and each one has taught me something new.
While I am not a print designer, I've gotten the opportunity to use my design skills in different ways, such as through infgraphics and web design.
Videos are a vital aspect of online journalism. I've been in and produced a few videos in my time on web staff and also participate in the video revision process
Photos are a vital aspect of journalism and add a visual element to my storytelling.
As web EIC, my whole thing is web journalism. Not only do I do online reporting, I also manage and run the WSS website and help run our social media accounts.
Being in charge also means understanding journalistic law and ethics to know how to navigate challenges. I also believe that engaging with the news makesy staff and I better journalists.

I use SNO analytics along with analytics from our social media platforms to analyze engagement. We also get feedback from the student body to decide what they want.
Diversity both in coverage and in my staff are very important. We do a variety of things to ensure that we cover a wide range of students and events.
